December craze and happy holidays

Oh boy oh boy it’s been a month! A deliciously good one, cold, cosy and confusing. Filled with friends and smiles and lots of snippets of sleep in between long days of work. December always is a bit of a weird one, I find. The joy we must feel, the family gatherings, the busyness that comes with the holidays. Dark short days asking you to follow their rhythm and take it slow. The need to rest a lot but... Winter always is my preferred time to work my ass off. It makes sense to me: it’s dark and cold outside so let’s get inside and make money.

I’m working at two shops at the moment, where the Christmas music is close to making me sick but the energy is too high to stop me. So I go and go and kind of enjoy this hectic dance from one job to another, then a family dinner in glitter outfit and at 6 am I’m up again writing my pages fuelling myself with strong coffee.

The truth is, I’ve secretly been loving my time in Belgium. Which is a surprise even to myself! I revel in the early darkness of morning when all is still and I’m riding my bike through the frosty city on my way to work. The hours in the shops before the customers flood in, when it’s just us and we blast music, dancing and laughing, forgetting it’s 7 am in the midst of Belgian winter.

Christmas lights in every tree, mulled wine and warm visits from friends to catch up and reflect on our year. What a bloody year. A friend asked me to describe my 2024 in one word and the first thing that came out was: EMOTIONAL. Nothing new for me, a cancer who gets emotional at the sight of a bird in a tree. The feels have just been extra extra this past year, with my dad’s heart attack and the floods in Valencia leaving my brain frazzled and my body frozen.

Extreme emotions have come hand in hand with beautiful deep dives in friendships and my relationship. I’ve gotten closer with family and friends and I’ve delighted in spending quality time together. I’ve been on some wonderful trips, I’ve read books that made my soul dance and I’ve made it priority to listen to my body. I’ve embraced my inner granny and am rolling around in my newest hobby that combines two of my favourite things: cooking while listening to audiobooks. So wildly not wild, but so good! I am finding joy in the little things and my curiosity is sparked, I feel hope and love and excitement for what’s to come.

Happy holidays darlings! Whatever that means to you. A cosy moment of stillness, a gathering of loved ones, a deep breath in and out, a wild dance. I wish you all of it and lots of love.
